OUTREACH EVENT – FOSTERING KIDS IN SINGAPORE

OUTREACH EVENT – FOSTERING KIDS IN SINGAPORE
23 August 2018

On 23rd August PrimeTime Outreach invited the local association Sanctuary Care to present opportunities to Foster kids in Singapore especially for non-Singaporeans/PR.

Isa Othman and Sheryl Chua from Sanctuary Care explained that the demand for Foster parents is high, close to 800 kids in Singapore are currently in need of placement solutions. When they can’t find a foster parent they would often be directed to government institutions instead.

These Singaporean kids have a diverse profile but most of them come from families going through difficult times: financial struggle, medical issues, separations or family conflicts etc. Fostering comes in as a temporary solution where all parties (including the biological parents) work hand-in-hand to provide a stable and loving environment to the children.

Application process for foster parents takes around 3 months and during placement foster kids will continue to have home visits once a week. Sanctuary Care ensures a close follow-up with foster parents and their social workers are always just a phone call away.

Roma Goodlander, gave a heartfelt feedback on her experience fostering her son, a fun-loving and resilient 5 years-old little boy, nicknamed « fearless » for the presentation. Roma works full-time in Singapore and she took us through the joys and challenges of her fostering journey. She loved parenting « Fearless », introducing him to her 2 daughters and seeing him enjoy normal childhood moments with them.

We appreciated having the association Sanctuary Care with us at PrimeTime and hope this will encourage more professional women to explore fostering opportunities in Singapore.
